Mobile BI: An App or Just Another Report?

It seems like everyone wants to deploy a mobile BI solution these days. The idea of location awareness and the freedom to access data from anywhere at anytime has generated a lot of excitement. From a software perspective BI vendors are fueling the mobile BI market with “out of the box” solutions for most of the major mobile platforms (iOS, Android, Blackberry). At the same time we have had an almost overnight adoption of tablets that make mobile BI more usable thanks to the larger screen size.

The Role of Data in a Disaster

The recent tragedy in Japan got me thinking about the role of data in a disaster. How do we use data to help prepare us for these events? Are we using all the data we have available to us to understand the impact of a disaster and how are we using data after the disaster has occurred? Do we have the right data and the right tools available to save more lives or are we doing all we can?

What to Make of the Latest Gartner Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms?

Gartner recently released an updated version of the Magic Quadrant for Business Intelligence Platforms. One quick glance at the new Magic Quadrant and you’ll notice there are a whopping 19 entries this year, with 8 companies making the prestigious leader quadrant. When compared to the 4 leaders in the Data Integration magic quadrant and 6 in the data warehouse space it is clear there is a lot happening in the world of Business Intelligence.
