Don’t Just Get Stuff Done: A Lesson for all Butchers, PM’s, Architects, and Software Developers

I wrote my recent blog, An Old Dog Makes the Case for New Tricks, on a flight early one morning. That afternoon, in a meeting with an intelligent and well-respected friend and client, we discussed the case for disciplined project management. Why should a PM use MS Project instead of MS Excel to manage the schedule? Why should there be a documented risk and issue log? Why can’t a good PM, whose talent is getting stuff done, just work at getting stuff done? I immediately realized the need for this follow-up blog.

An Old Dog Makes the Case for Learning New Tricks

Many years ago, while enrolled in a professional MBA program, I started a brand new job at a company. The new boss told me the MBA program would be a waste of my time and that I would learn much more from him than I would in school. Excited about the professional opportunity, I withdrew from the MBA program. While it turned out to be a great job and a tremendous learning experience, that advice was horribly misguided and only half-true. Mobile Wallet Gets a Boost

It is interesting that the article, ’Payment Trade Association Forms Mobile Payment Committee,’ and similar articles were published the same time as this Mobile Wallet blog.  Technology fragmentation is among the key reasons Mobile Wallet is not gaining momentum in the US.  It’s as if the entire industry visited Read More

Mobile Payments Train Speeds Along with One Critical Car Left at the Station

The initial blog in this series discussed how the Mobile Payments Train was quickly leaving the station and financial institutions were at risk of being left behind if they did not board soon.  While there are pockets where mobile payments are becoming prolific, Point-of-Sale (POS) payments (also referred to as “mobile wallet”) which together with their associated intelligence databases and customer relationships are the key to mainstream consumer spending, are not yet gaining momentum.

This is an exciting time to focus on mobile payments and all indicators predict that mobile wallet will eventually sweep the US as it has done in other countries.  However, declarations that there has been or will soon be a sea-change in consumer behavior are premature.  The following paragraphs will first explore the current situation and then explore the b
